I feel like this is one of those comics that dates me. 1, you’ve gotta be in the right bubble. 2, both tumblr and reddit are products of their time. 3, it’s an inside joke about how reddit thinks it’s the most important place on the whole internet. You kinda gotta be part of the community to understand the sentiment!
Anyway, I actually tweeted a story today about the process I used to produce this strip! As follows:
Day 27 – Social Speeds
Today I’m gonna share my brief artistic process with twitter! Part one: ink drawing done in my sketchbook. pic.twitter.com/rVzoEPMX1k— ˗ˏˋ Cory Allan ˊˎ˗ (@allanwood) November 14, 2017
Part 2: I’ve been just photographing my sketchbook to import it digitally. It works for what I need. I pop it into Photoshop, crop it, and mess with the curves, which is a fancy way of saying I make the light colors lighter and the dark colors darker. pic.twitter.com/kY1INXU4p1

Part 2 cont.: Kinda the same as messing with levels, I “Threshold” the drawing (in Photoshop), which makes all the pixels either black or white—no shades of gray. This helps improve coloring (mostly) and improves the integrity of the linework! pic.twitter.com/MpOGUsUa3U

Part 3: Tighten up the linework! Erase stuff, fix stuff, move stuff… gotta be legible, gotta flow right. I usually will do this part while simultaneously coloring it, but I figured I’d stick with a step-by-step process. pic.twitter.com/KQH0myJPl0

Part 5 (final): So, for some projects, I might shade after I colored flats, but for my journal comic I’m trying to keep it simple, stupid!!
I hope you enjoyed this brief process and also the irony that I posted this specific strip on twitter. Happy Tuesday! pic.twitter.com/0dQQAhoswc
