Remember what I said about doing this whole line digitally?
Yeah I decided not to do that.
As you guys may know, I draw an Allan strip to convey an emotion. And the emotion for this line is not “perfect, smooth lines and computer tones.”
Anyway, I’m going to go back and redraw the last page at some point, but for now, enjoy this staunch visual shift!
In other news: SKYRIM IS FUN. It’s a lot of fun. I wish I had more time to play it, but luckily I’ve had enough time to make another episode of my “Let’s Roleplay” series! This time it’s with special guest star AMANDA!
Classic Allan
So a friend of mine gave me a large Wacom Intuous 4 and I thought, “What better way to break it in than to force myself to use it mixed with pencil scans for the entire storyline!”
So I’m doing that.
And good news:
THE KICKSTARTER WAS FUNDED! Or, will be, right before Christmas. In the meantime, I’ll be posting updates to backers with special details about the book and preview images and stuff as it comes!
If you want a book, I would implore you to back the project—this way you’ll get a limited-edition, numbered and signed book with your name printed in the back of it. It’s a no-brainer ya doofus!
Thanks guys. More soon.
So it’s been rather hectic moving, as mentioned before, but it’s slowing down, now. I have time for homework, again, and I have time for drawing. Hopefully things continue to progress in this direction!
So thank you for being patient. I know you were expecting part two of that moving storyline, but I decided I wanted to start that saga in another way.
But in the meantime, Amanda and I are safe, in a room we can afford in spite of its size, and we’re alive. For everyone who sent me a message concerned about my safety, thank you. Your comments were appreciated.
Now that everything’s settling down I decided to start up round two of this Kickstarter for a book! If you wanted a book, now would be the time to back the project for one!
Also, if you like Blue Circus, I updated that, too!
Thanks for being patient, guys! More soon.
EDIT: Changed my mind about starting the storyline like this; stay tuned!
So I know we just completed a storyline, but I find it’s much easier to produce these than day-to-day strips, and seeing as how I’m still working hard on finding a house to move into within less than two weeks, I figured easier would be better. So I’ll make a few strips about what we’re going through!
Also, this strip is sort of an assignment for one of my classes; I’ll be making a tutorial on how I edit and color my strips which you guys will be able to read if you’re interested! I’ll tell you when it’s done.
In the meantime, wish us luck!
PS. KS.
So in our free time we’ve been watching Star Trek: TNG. I really wanted to find a clip of the scene I was thinking of, but I couldn’t. Here’s the closest I could get.
In other news, my lease is up at my apartment, which means it’s time to move. Everything was going smoothly and we had an apartment lined up, but then the owner decided to go with another applicant. Oh well. Now we’re in Scramble Mode getting everything fixed.
But don’t worry. As _Dougal on twitter was kind enough to reassure me: I always bounce back. Is that because I have an awesome fanbase?
Yes.
More stuff soon!
Then Christmas was great because it was nothing but “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” jokes!
I decided not to follow up on yesterday’s storyline. I figured you guys had probably had enough work stories for now. I’ll talk more about that kind of stuff later. In the meantime, I hope everyone has very wonderful costumes for Halloween.
In other news, a number of readers have asked me about The Hat—specifically where it’s gone and why. I wrote a little tumblr post about it, which you can read here.
And besides that, here’s a link to the Kickstarter.
Okay goodbye! Be sure to read yesterday’s comic if you did not!
Oh, and BOO!
EDIT: Oh what lovely costumes you all have! Here is a nice, nougat-filled bonus panel! I kind of have a feeling I misspelled something in it but who has time to double check their work these days?
So I may or may not make an epilogue to follow-up on a few things, here, but who knows!
How do you guys feel about this storyline? This has been one of the only storylines I’ve ever written where I’ve been able to look back on the events at a distance and comprehend them before drawing them out. It’s been a different experience, let me tell you. If you liked it, drop me a message somewhere (forum – twitter – tumblr) to let me know!
And once more, here is the link to that Kickstarter!
I’m going to be honest with you guys, I don’t know if we will hit the mark. I know I’m supposed to be confident about it to instill confidence, but there is no risk for you guys as consumers as, if it does fail, you all get your money back immediately, and I can always start another one, so I will be candid.
I was talking to my friend Jean Luke Picard about printing books. He recommended I contact a comrade in the comic-making field and so I did. Which lead me to a printing company in Hong Kong. I figured I’d check to see my options.
I may have jumped the gun with said option. Their minimum order was 1K books, which is a lot. A lot of books. For 5000 dollars. That means to cover costs I’d need to sell about 350 books. Then add on top of that the 7-10% Kickstarter and Amazon take, I had to increase the goal from 5000 to 5500.
“But Allan!” you may exclaim. “What were you going to do with all those extra books?” Well, I was going to take them to comic conventions and sell them to generate interest and cover the costs of said cons. Also I would’ve sold some on the website to anyone who may or may not have had money available to them at the time.
As I mentioned before, the best thing about Kickstarter is that everyone who contributes receives a risk-free investment, meaning, if the project is made, people will get what they ordered. If it is not, everyone gets their money back. With this in mind, I decided I may as well try the aforementioned goal—if only to get a baseline for my fanbase’s interest. And I think I did just that.
Now, since I started this Kickstarter, I’ve been researching more and more printing options. I may have found a few “better” options (“better” in terms of realistic number of books printed, of course), which, if this Kickstarter fails, I will utilize. My point is I am going to get this book printed regardless of whether or not we reach this $5500 goal.
Having said that, I would still encourage anyone who’s been on the fence about preordering a book to do so. If you are worried that it will be a fruitless investment, remember you will get your money back, and it will give me a better idea on what’s a reasonable number to shoot for.
To everyone who has backed so far, thank you again. Your interest in this project is priceless, even if it did come with a pricetag.
Thanks for reading, guys. More comics soon!
There’s only one more page to this storyline!
In other news, I finished the newest season of Breaking Bad (I can’t afford television, so thanks, internet!), and HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I think Breaking Bad is literally the best show I’ve ever seen. I probably should make a strip about it, I dunno.
And finally, the daily Kickstarter plug, if you’d like to see an Allan book made, or if you just want to listen to a song I wrote and a comedic video I made, click here!
I don’t really like the lines in this one; it didn’t feel too fluid drawing it. It still works well enough, however!
And don’t forget about preordering a book or something like that! But thank you to everyone who has thus far. Your support is humbling.
In the words of Tracy Jordan, “Yes, goodBYE.”
So in case you missed it, this here is a story that starts here. It’s still going, too, so stay tuned.
And in other news, I’m trying to get a book printed. Interested in helping? Even if you’re not, click the link for a video I made that contains a song I wrote and some outtakes, too!
Thanks everyone for everything really honestly. Couldn’t ask for better readers!
