KeymasterI get a lot of messages with stories about peoples’ pasts, how Allan affected people when they were teens and young adults…
If you’ve got a story, share it here, and if you don’t, just say hi 🙂

ParticipantHi, I’m Sarah and I couldn’t think of a cool username.
I started reading Allan way back when, so far I don’t even remember what year anymore. I just remember I was still a young lass, trying to make it through high school (we all remember those oh-so-tough times), and procrastinating on all of my homework by reading webcomics and playing games like TF2 all afternoon when I got home from school.
I never really got on the old forums and interacted with anyone though. For some reason I was kind of shy about it? I don’t remember exactly why, but I remember lurking on there from time to time, reading posts and looking at other people’s artwork and stuff, just checking back from time to time when I read the comic.
Then suddenly, when checking back after a long while, it seemed the comic site and forum had kind of died, and then eventually disappeared. In a weird way, it was kind of sad for me even though I never talked to anyone on there, because I felt an odd sort of attachment to both.
But the story has a happy ending because I found and followed this cool guy called Cory on Twitter, and thus my comics supply was refreshed. And then eventually, I ended up going to California on my honeymoon and ended up meeting said cool guy and his cool gf Lindsey while I was there, and it was great. B)
The end.

KeymasterYo hanging out with you and JP on your honeymoon was seriously some of the most fun I’ve had meeting people from another state! Lindsey and I still talk about how great that was and how we’re excited to hang out again whenever.
Also remember when people were shy on the internet

ParticipantJP will actually be heading back to San Francisco for a work conference thing in a couple weeks! If he’s got a bit of extra time, he might be down for driving to meet up and hang out again.
(Sadly I will still be at home bc I have school, which means I’m never allowed to have any fun.)

ParticipantHey I’m Dave. I’ve been a fan of Cory’s work and have periodically checked in on what he’s been doing since 2007. Loved Future Universe, JOAT, Blue Circus — basically anything he makes I’ll look at (or listen to). I was there when ‘Allan’ started (I did a similar comic called ‘And Id’ that was inspired by Allan), watched it grow into a juggernaut, was one of the other DrunkDuck people who moved over to RampageNetwork (WHICH WAS A NIGHTMARE), participated in the forums, and then fell off the face of the earth. Recently I’ve been dipping my toes back into comic making and general art stuff (sometimes I do oil paint puppy portraits for $$$), as well as reaching back out to old internet friends. Hello!

Keymasterhey dave do you do commissions for anyone who has the money or do you limit it to people you know IRL?
also this was a really flattering post cuz you’re a great artist and have inspired me so much over the years!

ParticipantI’ve done one or two commissions over the years for random internet people (some guy named Talekyn waaaaay back in the Applied Living days was my first), but never really had enough confidence in my work to advertise my ‘services’ widely. As a result, the only people who really know I’m willing and able are people that I (or my mother) physically talk to. It’s probably for the best, considering my tendency to procrastinate until the last possible moment — fewer people to disappoint.
Also THIS was a really flattering reply cause YOU’RE a great artist that I feel a sense of competition against. But like an ‘I should’ve made that comic’ or ‘I shouldve drawn that butt’ sort of competition, not like ‘ill break his hands and win the match’ competition.

ParticipantHey I’m Dz. I met Cory at FanimeCon in 2014 and now I guess we’re living together??? I’ve been exploring his work through his portfolio and it’s been an amazing experience seeing what he’s created over the years. Watching him work is a big inspiration and I’m always happy to be around such great, creative energy. He’s constantly teaching me and introducing me to new artists and media and WOW. I’ve learned so much being with him these past few years. Plus he’s a good cook as well, so that’s a plus.
I’ve been dabbling in various types of art since i was a wee bab. Theater, music, drawing, a little bit of ceramic work when I was in middle school. I haven’t really been creating much lately (y’know, school and what not) so it’s nice to experience Cory’s creative process. -

ParticipantHey, my name is Manny. I’ve been following Allan for close to 10 years now. Used to be apart of the original forum back when I was a baby boy in my 20s. Now I’m an old fart and back on my shit.

Keymasterby “back on my shit” do you mean you’ve been asking Lt. Dan if he wants ice cream, again?
